CUSTOMS Item declaration not a new procedure
In response to a issue on social media on customs procedures, Chaiyut Kumkun, deputy director-general and spokesman of the Customs Department, explained that the procedures including passengers’ declaration and check-through of items such as notebooks, cameras, among others, have been implemented for long time.
These procedures were announced under Customs Act, B.E. 2560 last month in replacemnt of Customs Act, B.E. 2469, which has been ablolished.
He said the ‘item declaration’ procedure is to facilitate those passengers taking items abroad for the purpose of exhibiton or personal use and return with the same items to Thailand.
Not all passengers, according to the announcement, are required to make declaration of their items to officials when going abroad, he said.
