Sperm heeds no ideology
Re: “China sperm bank demands loyalty to Communist Party,” What Others Say, April 7.
It is amusing to learn that the Chinese Communist Party is requiring that sperm donors in China must be loyal communists with “sound ideological qualities”.
I warn the CCP that this requirement will prove useless. A sperm donor may be a perfectly orthodox communist. The question is whether his sperm will follow suit.
I have had extensive experience dealing with spermies, and I can tell you that the slippery little devils are independent creatures with minds of their own. Rogue spermies are perfectly capable of rebelling against their host organisms and embracing a variety of deviant creeds. They can become socialists, capitalists, liberals or conservatives. In Thai terms, they can be pro-Thaksin, anti-Thaksin, pro-junta, anti-junta, red shirts, yellow shirts, Pheu Thai, Democrats or members of that great new party, Fast Forward. There will also be spermies who are utterly apolitical, cherishing only a desire to be united with a cute ovum.
I favour the last type. Let’s keep our spermies out of politics, people. Politics is complicated enough already. Just give them a shot at a cute ovum and let them do their thing.
