Old-school Trump will win the day

Old-school Trump will win the day

Re: “Making a mockery of diplomacy”, Editorial, May 27

Bill Clinton’s infantile approach to North Korea and then more recently Barack Obama’s immature bungling with Iran were both accepted as clever “diplomacy”. They both used bribery and reliance on bad boys giving their word that they would be good boys. That is exactly why President Trump is “making a mockery of diplomacy”, because it has been shown not to work.
Trump is a free range rooster. He is an individual whose unpredictability is predictable. But fear not, don’t be fooled, there is a very shrewd brain behind the apparent disingenuousness. Trump will never be understood by those conventionally schooled. He has learned his trade the hard way and it works. He knows the ways of Tantalus and is conversant with the Machiavellian that he can unmask with ease.
Trumpism can’t be taught at sheep-rearing red-brick universities where political indoctrination has submerged idiosyncratic individualism. Trump comes from the old school and that is why his ways are not understood. But as we say, the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and Trump has delivered much both as a businessman and now a politician.
Trump is a free range rooster, not a broiler house chicken. He crows because he knows.
