The Thai heroes who aren’t
Now that the world knows that two of the Mu Pa boys, plus their coach, are stateless, it will be watching to see how swiftly the Thai government moves to grant them Thai citizenship. In today’s fractious world, nobody should be stateless; everybody should enjoy the protection of a government.
It is irrational to tout Coach Ek, Adul and Pornchai as Thai heroes if they’re not even Thai. The world will judge the competence and compassion of the Thai government by the speed with which it brushes aside any bureaucratic quibbling and grants them citizenship.
