Money always opens the doors

Money always opens the doors

Re: The Shinawatras and the global diplomatic merry-go-round, Opinion, August 8

Tulsathit Taptim was right in that Britain seems to be having a tough time explaining to the world why it has welcomed a former Thai prime minister, who is on the run from Thai law, into its country.
It is not only Thailand that is facing this dilemma: Oligarchs from other countries seem to be happily welcomed to Britain – provided they have a large stash of cash with them. The global diplomatic scene seems to be full of lip service at the moment, to the point that Thailand is facing an awkward democratic predicament.
This is what really happened: The world community encourages Thailand to hold an election as a first step towards democracy.
But an election was held, and things went so wrong to the point that a large-scale corruption occurred – and a person with stolen money escaped abroad. Why should Britain have welcomed such a person?
What was the reason or motive behind such action: high-standard morality or plain money? In my opinion, Thailand deserves an answer to that.
