Have pity on today’s children

Have pity on today’s children

Re: “Surge in coal use scuttling climate change efforts”, News, August 20.

Your front page article makes dismal reading, and helps to prove the point made in my letter of June 6 last year (“While economic growth is the global consensus, Paris Accord is meaningless”).
Forget Kyoto, forget Paris, forget all these futile “voluntary” environmental accords. The world’s national governments will do nothing to upset their pursuit of economic growth and we may as well get used to it. Nature will determine the outcome.
Global population up from 7.6 billion today to 11.2 billion by end century? Have pity on today’s children – our generation has failed them.
