Global appeasement of bullying China is a shameful spectacle
Re: “Beijing has violated Olympic charter to deprive Taiwan of Games”, Have Your Say, August 29.
Beijing’s violations don’t stop there. Just look at what’s going on in the South China Sea. Look back at the annexation of Tibet. Look at the “debt diplomacy” associated with China’s Belt and Road (Adam Taylor, The Nation, August 27) which is making vassal states of Asian countries – colonisation in all but name. Look at the Orwellian crackdown on freedom of thought in Xinjiang province with its mass imprisonments and accusations of torture.
It is unconscionable that the world’s governments, sports committees and other international organisations should kowtow to China, a brutal, hegemonistic, communist dictatorship, to the extent of shunning Taiwan, a free democratic country. It displays a shameful moral deficit.
