Only one party courageous enough to let members choose candidates

Only one party courageous enough to let members choose candidates

I fully agree with the Democrats adopting a primary voting system to select their standard-bearers for the upcoming elections.

As Constitution Drafting Committee adviser Jade Donavanik noted, if members are involved in nominating party candidates and choosing from among them, they are more likely to understand policy platforms and be engaged in politics.
Conducting primaries also shows that leaders trust their members’ ability to sort the wheat from the chaff, and choose candidates who will best formulate and execute the strategies that fulfil party and national objectives. Hopefully, members will choose leaders who reach out to opponents, so that they may work together towards overarching national goals.
Primaries will enable parties to break loose from their financiers’ golden chains and stand on their own two feet. It’s noteworthy that it’s the Democrats that are introducing primaries; unlike many others, their party doesn’t depend on a single person or clan for survival, but on a common philosophy.
Other parties should also adopt primary voting systems, and thus promote democracy – if they dare.
