A watershed moment for freedom of speech

A watershed moment for freedom of speech

Re: “Srivara makes U-turn on rap group”, Breaking News, October 29.

Instead of searching for illegality in the lyrics of the viral “Prathet Ku Mee” music video – which has attracted more than 20 million views on YouTube – the Prayut Chan-o-cha government should listen to what the majority of Thais, especially the youth, have to say.
In the United States, the constitution’s first amendment prevents the government from abridging the freedom of speech. This protection was adopted in 1791, as one of the 10 amendments that constitute the Bill of Rights.
A smart Thai government would do likewise, striving to develop and safeguard the country for future generations. Free speech must be allowed.
