Slip of the chopsticks reveals unsavoury political correctness

Re: “The Global Offence Industry strikes again”,  Have Your Say, November 26.

A footnote to Nigel Pike’s praiseworthy response to your editorial of November 24-25 (“Cultural insensitivity is hurtful and costly”). The editorial claims, “People in all Asian countries use chopsticks.”  Uhhhhh... ALL Asian countries? Thailand is in Asia, and last time I looked, most Thais were eating with a fork and spoon. India is in Asia, and Indians traditionally eat with their fingers. “People in many Asian countries” would have been more accurate.
I also object to the politically correct smarm-word “hurtful”. What’s wrong with the old-fashioned word “painful”? Pain can be either physical or mental.
Nitpickingly,
Ye Olde Pedant
