Who rules the world? Not the Rothschilds, Illuminati or Freemasons…

Re: “What’s so special about the murder of Jamal Khashoggi?”, Have Your Say, November 29.

The writer rhetorically asked, “Is it possible that this media hysteria is because the Khashoggi case involves a fellow journalist?” May I add that he was no ordinary journalist, he wrote for “Thee” Washington Post.
Nowadays journalists are inviolable. They are protected as if they were on top of the endangered species list. If you sue them you violate freedom of the press, while news reports are usually peppered with words like transgression, harassment, intimidation. You can’t complain if they hound you, or shove a microphone down your throat, or if they invade your privacy, because they are doing their jobs. If journalists are killed, they were “silenced” – there are never any another motives.
It all started in 1787 when someone – was it Edmund Burke? – called journalism the fourth estate, giving journalists a sense of self-importance and sacrosanct status. (If you asked Thai journalists what the other three estates are, I bet they would dutifully chant: nation, religion and monarchy.)
These days the globe is dominated not by the new world order, nor the Illuminati, nor the Freemasons, nor the Rothschild family – but by journalism.
