Shearing not quite like a haircut

Shearing not quite like a haircut

Re: “A case of woolly-minded animal rights activists”, Have Your Say, November 29

Robin Grant claims that shearing goats is no different from getting a haircut. After all, Grant tells us, fur and human hair grow back.
I wonder if Grant would return to a barber who cut chunks out of his head, put needles through his ears and slit his throat, all without anaesthesia. That’s what the goats endure.
Of course, no one is suggesting that merely giving an animal such as a shaggy dog a trim is an act of cruelty. But that’s what Grant always does – he deliberately distorts the animal-rights position because he knows if he tells the truth he would be unable to morally or intellectually defend himself.
