Is The Nation trying to rehabilitate the Shinawatras?

Re: “Prayut comes under blistering attack as political bans are lifted”, Nation front page, December 14.

I wonder if The Nation has started a campaign to whitewash Thaksin Shinawatra by repeatedly calling him a man living in self-imposed exile instead of a fugitive. Add the frequent new and nice photos of the two fugitive Shinawatra siblings and regular references to what they say on social media or at events, and you get the impression that The Nation, step by step, has started work to rehabilitate these fugitives. It is quite amazing fugitives are given a public say in various media at a time when almost every political discussion elsewhere is about the democratic system or lack of it.
Prayut has now ensured that fugitives from the law can no longer use the same justice system they fled from to sue others. But they are still being allowed to influence politics through media. Could it be the Shinawatras are now friends with The Nation’s owner? I recall media mogul Rupert Murdoch once saying to one of his editors, “From now on we support Blair!”
