Nature, or food-industry marketing?

Nature, or food-industry marketing?

Thanks to editors at The Nation, February 5’s letters make compelling reading, with Eric Bahrt, Jenny Moxham and even Ye Old Theologian making so much sense.

Yet Dr Frank’s assertion that humans are “unquestionably members of the smartest and most successful beings on earth”, needs examination. Look at the destruction that the 7 billion-plus burgeoning human population has caused to our planet. Most of the world’s arable land is used for intensive animal food production and the mono-crops necessary to feed them. Food from third world countries is shipped to rich countries to feed animals, rather than being eaten directly by starving people.
Frank also wrongly claims we are “natural carnivores”.
Of course we’re not! To survive, our early ancestors ate whatever was available to them. Our grandparents were brainwashed by industrial animal farming into believing we must eat animals and their secretions to be healthy.
Today we know we can do better and eat in healthier, kinder ways. Our physiology alone proves we are not equipped to tear flesh apart or to digest flesh without dire consequences to our health.
So please stop discouraging the writers who want to help keep our planet healthy for future generations to thrive on and enjoy. Sadly, through your ongoing ignorance and temporary taste-bud satisfaction, your mixed grill could be the death of you, Frank!
