LAWS READY FOR SETUP OF RAIL TRANSPORT UNIT
The Cabinet yesterday approved three sets of organic laws for the establishment of a new unit, the rail transport department, under the of Ministry of Transport.
Nattaporn Jatusripitak, a government spokesman, said set-up of the new department will be completed in April, adding that it will take charge of fare policies and issues related to safety, standards and services of the Skytrain, double-track and high-speed transport systems. A research and development unit for rail transport will also be formed in the future.
The new department will also perform the roles of a policy maker and regulator for the State Railway of Thailand, Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand and the Airport Rail Link.
