Mobile ID to put cards on outer at bank

Mobile ID to put cards on outer at bank

THE National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) has joined with Advanced Wireless Network (AWN) and Bangkok Bank to develop and conduct a trial of a mobile device-based electronic identification card system.

AWN is a subsidiary of Advanced Info Service (AIS).
Under the project, a system will be developed for verifying identities though the use of the mobile ID card. Those AIS mobile phone subscribers that are also Bangkok Bank customers will be able to use the mobile ID card instead of a physical ID card when doing transactions with the bank.
The three parties signed a memorandum of collaboration for the project yesterday.
As part of the development, the three partners will jointly develop a platform for the project, including the mobile ID application.
AIS mobile subscribers that install the application will also need to apply for a QR code from AIS before they can use their mobile ID for transactions at Bangkok Bank branches.
Their memorandum of collaboration will be valid for 12 months from yesterday and the development of the whole system will be completed in three months. The trial will run from June this year to February next year.
AIS chief corporate officer Weerawat Kiatpongthaworn said that as part of the trial, AIS subscribers would be allowed to use the mobile ID platform to open a deposit account at Bangkok Bank branches. This would help speed up application approvals.
NBTC secretary general Takorn Tantasith said he believed that other telecommunications operators and banks would soon join the project.
When asked why the NBTC joined with AWN and Bangkok Bank as the first participants in the project, Takorn said that they were chosen because they were at a more advanced stage of readiness for the collaboration.
