Tension and trigger fingers: why we need nuclear non-proliferation treaty
Re: “Walking the thin line between war and peace”, Editorial, February 27.
This analytical editorial points to fundamental issues.
Referring to the same category of problems, in a recent, little-publicised but significant address to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that the arms control and disarmament regime is built on the good-faith implementation of provisions – and on rigorous verification and enforcement of compliance.
In the same context, he said the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty remains an essential pillar of international peace and security and the foundation for both nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation.
These ideas deserve to be known worldwide.
