Rather than starting another cold war, Russia could join the US

Following up on President Vladimir Putin’s hypersonic missile boast, Russian state TV has proudly listed targets in the United States that would be eliminated in a nuclear strike.

Two of the targets are Fort Richie in Maryland (closed in 1998) and McClellan Air Force Base (closed in 2001).
Fundamentally this is an indication of the power of Putin’s punch.
For 21 years a Russian intercontinental ballistic missile has been aimed at a CLOSED military base! For 18 years a Russian ICBM has been aimed at another defunct base!
Putin is way out of his reach, depth, knowledge, and understanding. And if this targeting information is accurate, the entire Russian nuclear weapons programme is a shambles.
Their nuclear-armed submarines are very few in number (perhaps one or at the most two on active patrol, versus the US Navy’s eight or more) and constantly under surveillance. Should they squirt even one ICBM at the United States, they would instantly vanish and go to the real “workers’ paradise” – probably the same place Islamist assassins go to enjoy their 72 virgins.
Russian ICBMs are rusting in their silos, especially the ones aimed at Fort Richie and the McClellan base.
Essentially Putin and comrades are still enemies of the US, but practically speaking they must understand they simply cannot win a war, whether hot or cold.
I am surprised that members of Putin’s inner circle don’t straighten him out. Russia needs another Gorbachev.
Or perhaps President Trump could persuade his buddy Putin to consider a merger of the two countries, and make Russia our 51st state?
 The Russian people deserve better.
