America is trampling civil rights to win trade war

Re: “Chinese irony: Huawei chief screams about her ‘civil rights’” and “Huawei’s hilarious state of affairs”, Have Your Say, March 5 and March 9.

Somsak Pola repeatedly avoids addressing the reason behind the Huawei lawsuit but instead acts again as a proponent of democracy and puts the blame on China.
Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou has filed a lawsuit against the Canadian government to seek justice for her unlawful detention at a Canadian airport by Canadian authorities who questioned and searched her without a lawyer present, violating her Miranda rights, before finally showing her an arrest warrant three hours later.
Huawei has filed a separate lawsuit in the US claiming that the law the US is using to limit its business activities there (Section 889 of the 2019 National Defence Authorisation Act) is unconstitutional. The purpose of the lawsuit is to demand proof for the US government’s accusation that Huawei is spying via “backdoors” in its electronic devices. In the absence of any proof the US will have no legal right to ban Huawei’s products.
Somsak also questions whether civil rights were violated in the tit-for-tat arrest of two Canadians by the Chinese government. Well, hasn’t Somsak heard of “an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth”?
If Somsak has any doubt about these legal issues he can consult an expert before writing back, and he has every right to remain silent and laugh out loud when the courts rule against Huawei.
