Keep our oceans healthy

Keep our oceans healthy

Re: “That steamed fish on your plate felt pain, say scientists”, Have Your Say, April 12.

With our oceans being overfished and becoming dangerously acidic with plastics, microbeads and heavy metals such as mercury, we need to acknowledge March 30 as the World Day for the End of Fishing.
Crustaceans, cephalopods and fish make up the largest number of animals killed by humans each year. Many are used to feed farmed fish, while many others are discarded as unwanted by long-line and trawler fishing.
Fish and other aquatic animals live hidden from view and are not protected by animal-welfare laws.
As they say. “If we don’t become their voice, who will hear them?”
The health of the oceans equals the health of the planet.
