The Karl Lagerfeld label launches its boutique in Bangkok with Karl Dot collection

HE MAY have passed away but the legendary designer Karl Lagerfeld will live forever through his timeless fashions. And in a nod to his sometimes quirky but always fun ideas, his label recently launched a pre-autumn and winter collection that featured his Karl Dot collection to mark the opening of its new boutique at CentralWorld.

A celebration of polka dots in every size and proportion, this classic print is one of the last two collections designed by Lagerfeld before his death. The looks are mixed-and-matched in different fabrics and silhouettes, with a feminine palette of black, white and pink and the result is a timeless aesthetic that’s playful yet effortless.
The statement design is a two-piece suit with matte dots on a shiny satin base. The tailored blazer has lustrous lapels and is complemented by loose-fitting trousers with a sleek, wider leg. An elegant black midi dress features flattering ruffled sleeves, a bow tie and pleated placket, and a high-collar cotton shirt with a ruffled back creates a voluminous effect.
The collection also features a polka dot shirt-dress with a twisted knot detail on the front, a black pleated perforated midi skirt, palazzo pants, and a bomber jacket with an abstract, oversized dot motif. These chic styles are accompanied by a selection of premium casual wear including skinny jeans, sweatshirts, t-shirts, and a cropped hoodie – all with dot patterns.

In the accessories line, a large shopper and a round crossbody style bag are both finished with perforated dot patterns. Two medium-sized hobos are accompanied by removable pouches, while a polka dotted crossbody “double pouch” has a flap on the front and extra pouch space on the back. Small accessories include two baseball cap styles, a cardholder, an iPhone case, a two pack of dotted socks, and a large dotted scarf.

There’s also a two-in-one black dotted washbag, which contains a smaller, removable pink washbag inside.
The collection combines Parisian classics with a rock-chic attitude and tailored silhouettes. Its portfolio includes ready-to-wear for women, men and kids, plus bags and small leather goods.
The grand opening of the new store was led by Porndet Chandawanich co-chief executive officer, Pat Luxury concept – the official distributor of Karl Lagerfeld. The 120-square-metres store was packed with socialites and fans of Lagerfeld.
“The Karl Lagerfeld Store presents a ‘World of Karl’ in Thailand. We have crafted this space under the brand’s concept and the design is spacious and bright to give off a luxurious and inviting feel,” Porndet said.
“For the interior design, we are inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s home and office, presented through the use of marble. We use chrome and brass to frame Karl Lagerfeld’s sketches, while the patterns on the carpet are influenced by his designs. He usually framed his sketches with a red edge and this is the inspiration for our carpets. Masterpieces like red velvet chairs reflect the brand’s endless creativity, while the wooden floor is inspired by antiques and retro French design as seen in his house.”

The new store offers Karl Lagerfeld’s collections in ready-to-wear, bags, accessories and collectible items. These include a special limited edition of 100 “Karl City Shopper Bangkok” bags. The Karl’s Dot items can also be found online.
