Gama back in work after only two days
Brazilian coach Alexandre Gama signed a two-year-deal with struggling Muangthong United on Thursday, just two days after quitting the Thailand U23 team.
Gama who had a disappointing stint with the national side – it included a 2-1 loss to Indonesia in February’s AFF U22 final and a 4-0 defeat by Vietnam in a qualifying game for the under-23 Asian Cup in March – returned to the national league, where he had previously prospered.
He led Buriram United to consecutive titles in 2014 and 2015, the Thai FA Cup in 2015 and then Chiang Rai United to two Thai FA Cup titles in 2017 and 2018.
A daunting task awaits him at his new club, however.
Four-time national champions Muangthong have been in dismal form and are currently one from bottom in the 16-team league and recently fired South Korean Yoon Jong-hwan after he had been in the post for just two months.
