Huawei puts US conflicts on back burner, surges ahead with 5G

Huawei is accelerating 5G development on the global market.

The tech giant’s deputy chairman Ken Hu told reporters that the firm has now signed 50 commercial contracts for 5G around the world, and it has shipped 150,000 5G base stations. Many operators around the world, including those from Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific, are racing to deploy their 5G networks.
The firm officially issued its 5G licenses last month, marking the beginning of 5G commercialisation in the world’s largest mobile communications market.
“I believe China will help set a great example for the rest of the world, and provide useful insights for deployment in other regions,” said Yu.
Huawei has invested US$4 billion (Bt122.8 billion) in 5G over the past 10 years. It also has developed 5G capabilities in every aspect, from chipsets and products to networking.
“5G is already seeing large-scale deployment. The 5G development will rely heavily on services. 5G-enabled service innovation will help us push network performance to the next level, and help operators get greater returns on their 5G investment. The new service innovations include video streaming apps, live broadcasting, HD video and massive broadcast trucks onsite,” said Yu.
He added that 5G will pay a pivotal role in the digitization of all industries. Currently, China is in the process of evolving towards automated, digital and AI-driven industrial development.

5G can provide much greater bandwidth and lower latency than traditional wireless connections, and can also support different applications with dedicated network slices. This allows 5G to meet a wide range of industrial needs, and lays the foundation for a more fully automated, intelligent future.
“The networks themselves are the foundation of everything, but the future of 5G development will rely heavily on services. 5G-enabled service innovation will help us push network performance to the next level, and help operators get greater returns on their 5G investment,” said Yu.
For his part, Huawei 5G product line president Yang Chaobin noted 5G is on the fast track for commercial use, saying that Huawei has launched commercial 5G networks in South Korea, the UK, and Switzerland. Huawei's commercial 5G networks offer speeds 10 times faster than those of 4G networks, causing user traffic to increase exponentially.
In Thailand, AIS was the first mobile phone network operator to join with global partners including Nokia, Huawei and ZTE Corporation to showcase 5G technology in the “5G the First LIVE in Thailand by AIS” event held at the end of last year.
The National Broadcasting & Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) last month sold three 700 megahertz spectrum licences for a total of about Bt53 billion as part of an effort to develop 5G in the country.
