The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index plunged in the morning trading session on August 26 before rebounding at closing time after reports that the US and China will resume trade talks next month.

The SET Index closed at 1,622.73, down 1.45 per cent at the end of the day, while its morning trading session closed at 1,611.77, falling 2.12 per cent, in reaction to the intensifying trade spat.

Deputy Prime Minister Somkid Jatusripitak came out to soothe rattled traders later in the day, saying that the SET and Bank of Thailand were keeping a close watch on the volatile market.
