AIS offers insights into the future with 5G tech demonstration

Advanced Info Service (AIS) and its partners are putting on a 5G technology show at Samyan Mitrtown mall on Rama IV Road in Bangkok.

The demonstration, which is open to the public without cost, started on December 13 and will end on January 3, 2020 at the mall's semi-outdoor G Floor.
Wasit Wattanasap, AIS head of nationwide operations and support department, said: “5G is the technology that will transform Thai society and enhance the capabilities of the industrial sector to the next level, as well as facilitate the communication of users in general with three features: higher speed, capability of connecting to Internet of Things devices, and a fast and stable responsive network."
The 5G demonstration includes:
 5G Hologram 3D
This is first time the 3D Hologram technology has been introduced in Thailand, which will be used in remote communication in the future. It can broadcast 360 degrees in 3D models, with virtual reality and real-time for the public to experience. The technology will be useful for business meetings, distance education, medicine, agriculture, and fashion-entertainment jobs, as well as applying to develop games, 3D animation, AR (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality) and MR (Mixed Reality), where users may be located in different areas to share ideas, and collaborate on work.

5G VDO Call
The trial across all five regions of Thailand via the 5G network with a smartphone that supports 5G, is a unique feature with high-definition images in full HD-4K, and clear sound with ultra-HD voice.

5G Remote Control Vehicle

The demonstration of remote driverless vehicle technology via 5G network in the front area of Samyan Mitrtown is a cooperation between Digital Research and Innovation Institute, Prince of Songkla University and AIS. It will show the potential of the 5G network. The driver does not need to be in the car but can control the vehicle to move to various areas as required. It can be used for the transportation of goods in the industrial sector and traffic in the future.

5G connected drones

There is a demonstration of remote-controlled drones between Bangkok and Korat city in Nakhon Ratchasima province, in an area via 5G network on a Live Network. It can be applied to a wide range of applications, including transportation and logistics, agriculture, public safety, rescue, as well as the use of drones to control smart cities to explore different areas.

5G The Robotics

 An exhibition of robots through 5G technology explores two use cases:

Based on the concept of a future store, there is a demonstration on a future supermarket operated by robots via 5G technology, and also on an intelligent robot that is able to talk and answer the questions of users.
The free demonstrations from 10am to 10pm began on Friday (December 13) and end on January 3, 2020. From December 24 to 31, it will be open from 10am to midnight.
