SET buoyed by Trump’s shooting order, rising crude, hopes for economic stimulus

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Index closed at 1,272.53 today (April 23) at a high of 10.72 points or 0.85 percent.

Total transactions stood at Bt69.265 billion with an index high of 1,276.18 and a low of 1,260.80.
A stock analyst at Krungsri Securities expects the index to rise between 1,270 and 1,275 before falling.
“The market gained positive sentiment from regional indices responding to the rise in crude oil price after President Donald Trump ordered the US Navy to shoot down any Iranian gunboats that harass US ships, raising the tension between the two countries,” the analyst said, adding that investors are also expecting the US and European governments to announce new stimulus measures today.
“The European Union will hold a meeting to discuss long-term use of its budget, while the US House of Representatives is expected to approve Covid-19 relief measures worth US$480 billion to help small enterprises and hospitals,” the stock analyst said.
“However, the index will fall from mass sell-offs due to uncertainty that listed companies’ financial results might show a slide and a technical signal at the original peak of 1,275 points.”
The top 10 stocks with the highest trade values today were BAM, GULF, GPSC, PTT, AOT, PTTGC, CPALL, BGRIM, PTTEP and ADVANC.
