Liverpool denied title as EPL season restarts on bended knee

Liverpool edged a point closer to their 19th league title on Sunday, after the English Premier League restarted on bended knee following the Covid-19 lockdown.

Sunday’s Merseyside derby ended in a 0-0 stalemate with Liverpool dominating possession but Everton almost clinching three points when Tom Davies hit the post at an empty Goodison Park in the 80th minute. It began with all players taking a knee before kick-off as part of the Black Lives Matter protest against police brutality.

Liverpool can seal the title at Anfield on Wednesday with a win against Crystal Palace, but only if Manchester City fail to beat Burnley tonight (June 22).

The EPL relaunched last Wednesday (June 17) with second-place Man City scoring a 3-0 win over Arsenal. Leicester, in third, were held to a 1-1 draw away at Watford while fourth-place Chelsea improved their chances of Champions League football next season with a 2-1 win at Aston Villa. Manchester United, who drew at Spurs, and Wolves who beat West Ham 2-0, round out the top six.
