Police 'know source behind counter-coup rumour'

Police 'know source behind counter-coup rumour'

National police chief General Somyot Poompanmuang said yesterday the police could identify the person who allegedly spread rumours about a possible counter-coup.

He said the rumour was spread via website Daengdeedee.com. The person in question was overseas. But the police chief declined say if the person had been actively involved in politics.
Somyot urged the government to introduce a Single Gateway communication system that prevents and screens unwanted information and pictures by deleting such information before it spreads to the public. He said this system would solve problems at the root and was better than closing websites.
He said people intending to disseminate such information could continue doing it from other websites.
He added that he had assigned assistant police chief Pol Lt-General Prawut Thawornsiri, who is an expert on the system, to study the proposal.
He said the government might assign the ICT Ministry to implement the project, which could cost up to Bt1 billion.
