Marcar may sell off BEC Tero Sasana to investors

BEC Tero Sasana, who have been in the Thai Premier League since its inception, are on the verge of an ownership change with their president Brian Marcar reportedly agreed to sell the team to a group of investors.

Entertainment tycoon Marcar has decided to sell the twotime TPL chamฌpions even if the club stays in the topflight league in the upcoming season.
BEC Tero’s topflight status is doubtful after they finished last term in the bottom three of the 18-team league. The club filed a lawsuit against the TPL’s decision to allow their 1-0 defeat at home to Bangkok United in November to stand even though the latter fielded an ineligible player.
The legal threat prompted the TPL to propose an expansion of the league to 20 teams, which would let BEC Tero avoid the drop. However, the TPL board are yet to approve the proposal.
The club’s rights over the players would be transferred to the new owners should the deal go through. However, a report in the local media suggested that BEC Tero’s three key players, including midfielder Chanathip Songkrasin, the captain of the national side that bowed out at the group stage in the ongoing AFC U-23 Championship in Qatar, are on their way to join rivals Muangthong United.
Muangthong were trying to thrash out the transfer of the trio ahead of the deadline due to expire yesterday for submitting a squad list for their AFC Champions League playoff tie at home against Malaysian champions Johor Darul Ta’zim on February 2.
