The Thai spikers are taking part in their debut Montreux Volley Masters from May 31 to June 5 in Montreux, Switzerland.

The prestigious invitational competition, jointly organised by the world’s volleyball-governing body FIVB and Montreux and held annually since 1984, has attracted eight teams to vie for the top honour this year.

The eight participants will be divided into two pools. Pool A comprises defending champions Turkey, World Cup winners China, U23 world champions Brazil and Belgium, with debutantes Thailand, World Cup silver medallists Serbia, European silver medallists the Netherlands and hosts Switzerland in Pool B.

The group round-robin preliminaries will take place from May 31 to June 3. Only top two teams from each pool will advance to the cross semi-finals on June 4, with the two winning teams battling it out for the eventual crown.

World No.13 Thailand, which, despite failing to make the cut for the 12-team Rio Games, came up with gutsy display and amazing spirits at the recent World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Japan, will take on open Serbia in their opening match before next going up against the Netherlands and Switzerland respectively.
