Ex Tennis Star Paradorn Makes 1st Cut on pro Golf Tour

Former tennis world No 9 Paradorn Srichaphan proved he can have a career on the green too as he finally made the cut in a pro golf tournament for the first time after the second round of the All Thailand Premier Championship at the Singha Park Khon Kaen Golf Course.

The 37-year-old who retired from tennis career in 2010 fired a crucial birdie on the finishing hole to complete the midway stage at two-over-par 146 which was the cut for weekend rounds. The winner of five ATP Tour winner made the cut for the first time after he stared taking golf seriously five years ago.

“It proved that all my hard work and determination finally paid off,” said the overwhelmed Paradorn who would normally pack his bag by the end of Friday in all professional golf events he entered over the past four years on the tour.

“I’m really happy as I haven’t spent so many years on golf but I made the cut on the pro event. I’m still an amateur and it’s the dream for all amateurs to make the cut on a pro tour,” said Paardorn who explained that his experience on the tennis tour helped him to accomplish this mission.

“Making the birdie in the last hole is easier than trying to control my mental condition during the last five holes. I knew that by just shooting a birdie on one of these holes I would make the cut. There was so much pressure out there but thankfully I have been through that before during my tennis career,” said Paradorn who described that the finishing birdie was like a forehand winner from the back of the court.

It couldn’t be more special for him as this first cut also occurred on his hometown Khon Kaen. Paradorn even wished to extend inspirational messages to young golfers who bemoan about the difficulties of the golf circuit and feel discouraged.

“Several young golfers told me they want to give up. But if I can make the cut in a pro event in just four years, they can make it too. It just takes strong will and dedication to achieve this.”
