Co-leader Ariya stays dry in clubhouse at rain-hit LPGA Thailand

UNPLAYABLE course conditions forced organisers to suspend round two of the US$1.5-million Honda LPGA Thailand at the Siam Country Pattaya Old Course yesterday.

A heavy downpour saw play suspended for several hours before officials called an early halt to the day’s action at the soaked par-72 layout of 6,642 yards. Overnight co-leaders Ariya Jutanugarn and Amy Yang of Taiwan, plus three other players, hadn’t even hit their first tee shots when they heard the news.
World No 2 Ariya and the 2015 champion Yang were leading by one stroke at six under, with a pack of players including Cristie Kerr and Daniel Kang of the US – who both sank birdies on the first hole yesterday – following a shot behind.
Sue Witters, vice president of Tour Rules and Competition, said second-round play would resume at 7am today while round three would start at 10.30am, with the last group teeing off at 12.42pm.
However, further rain is expected today. Organisers, though, remain optimistic the competition will be completed by tomorrow.
