“Jr. NBA Thailand presented by Foremost has expanded every year since its launch in 2014, with the program now reaching kids, parents and educators in three cities across the country,” said NBA Asia Vice President, Global Marketing Partnerships, Francesco Suarez.  “We believe there is a real opportunity to improve the youth basketball experience and enhance player health and wellness by implementing guidelines for how the game should be played and taught at the grassroots level, and we look forward to continued collaboration with Foremost to bring the Jr. NBA experience to even more youth, coaches and parents in Thailand for many years to come.”

The program tipped off today in Bangkok with a coaches clinic and an open clinic for kids at NIST International School, and will run through August 2017.  All three cities will host a series of school clinics, followed by the selection camp on July 29 in Bangkok.  The top 32 boys and girls from the selection camp will be invited to participate in the Jr. NBA National Training Camp in Bangkok from August 4-6.

The National Training Camp will once again be attended by a current or former NBA player.  The program will culminate with eight boys and eight girls being named 2017 Jr. NBA Thailand All-Stars.  These standout campers will embark on a unique overseas NBA experience together with fellow Jr. NBA All-Stars from Southeast Asia later in the year.

As part of the NBA’s continued commitment to providing youth with increased access to play the game, the NBA will refurbish a basketball court in Thailand and dedicate it to the local community in August.

The Jr. NBA program is free and open to boys and girls ages 5-14.  Players between the ages of 10-14 will be eligible for the top selection during the selection camp and National Training Camp.  Participants are trained in the fundamentals of basketball and learn about the importance of proper nutrition as well as the Jr. NBA’s core values of sportsmanship, teamwork, a positive attitude, and respect.  In addition to the presenting partner Foremost, the event is also supported by Advanced Info Service (AIS) and Spalding.  TrueVisions is the official broadcast partner of the Jr. NBA presented by Foremost.  The program is also conducted in association with the Embassy of the United States in Bangkok.

The Jr. NBA teaches the fundamental skills as well as the core values of the game at the grassroots level in an effort to help grow and improve the youth basketball experience for players, coaches and parents.  During the 2016-17 season, the NBA reached more than 18 million youth in 53 countries through its youth participation initiatives.
