Cristie Kerr Holds 36 Hole Lead at Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open

  
Kerr battled the strong winds to shoot a one-over par 73 and leapfrog Karrie Webb to sit atop the leaderboard. A double bogey at the par-5 third hole, as well as bogeys on six and 11 saw Kerr quickly falling down the leaderboard midway through her round
 
However, the experienced American went on to make back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14, as well as a birdie at 17 to finish the day at five-under. “It was tough,” Kerr said. “I hit it so well yesterday, and I mean, that shows you the difference.
 
“I didn’t hit it that great today but I still managed. My caddie and I managed the golf course well, and we made the recovery shots when we needed to. So (I’m) just going to go hit a few balls and try to find the feel. It’s hard when you play back-to-back in heavy wind with the swing, but we’ll work on it.”

SCOTTISH COACH HELPING KRISTINSDOTTIR
Olafia Kristinsdottir shot a second round 70 (-2) to move from a tie for 37th into solo sixth place entering the weekend at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open.
 
“I always kept it in play and controlled the wind very well. Yeah, it was definitely tough out there with the wind. But yeah, we just did our best and it was really good.”
 
One of the things that has been helping Kristinsdottir this week is some advice that she received from her Scottish coach Derrick Moore who teaches out of Iceland.
 
“You’ve just got to accept what you get, and I’ve had a lot of experience in bad weather in Iceland,” the rookie said with a smile. “So it’s definitely helpful. Yeah, my coach is also from Scotland, so he gave me a few tips before playing here. so it’s the shot I’ve been hitting all week. It’s like half a shot and keeping it low, and then the wind doesn’t affect it as much. It takes the spin off. So that’s been really good.”
 
Adding some extra motivation for Kristinsdottir this week is a possible spot in the field at the Ricoh Women’s British Open next week.
 
“I unfortunately didn’t fulfill the criteria to do the Monday qualifier, so this is my only shot.”

Thai hope Pornanong Phatlum carded a 73 for a midway total of 2 under-par-142.

 
PAULA CREAMER TAKING A LONG TERM APPROACH
Paula Creamer shot a second round 70 to move into a tie for 11th heading into the weekend at the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open.
 
“I hit a lot more fairways today,” Creamer said. “Actually I could have shot a lot lower. Had some really good looks at birdie and kind of figured it out from yesterday, a couple good swing thoughts that I had on the driving range. It’s tough. It’s not easy and it’s definitely different golf that we’re not normally used to. I’ve always loved playing over here, so it was nice to actually get out there and hit some good shot s and make some good putts.”
 
While the 10-time LPGA winner is in the hunt sitting only six shots back on a difficult golf course she remains focused on the bigger picture.
 
“Obviously my goals in golf are so much more long term, and right now I’ve obviously struggled this year,” Creamer said. “I keep saying I feel a lot closer than what it looks and I truly believe that. I love what I’m doing. I really believe in what we’re working on with my swing. It’s just putting it out on the golf course under pressure. Every athlete goes through, you know, slumps and they go through tough times. Once I get through all this, I definitely know I’ll be a stronger player and a stronger person, as well.”

Kerr and Karrie Webb, who currently sits in second place, have combined for 60 wins on the LPGA Tour
 
Webb has gone 71 events since her last win on the LPGA Tour at the 2014 Founders Cup while Kerr won earlier this year at the LOTTE Championship

“Well, disappointing, because I bogeyed the last two. I fought really hard to be 1-over with two to go. Just a couple of bad swings and a couple of bad tee shots, really, that made it difficult to hit the greens.
 
Disappointed with that but obviously if you’d have told me before I teed off yesterday, that I would be 4-under, probably would have taken it. Hopefully the wind will stay up this afternoon and I won’t be too far behind starting tomorrow.”
