Sailor Siriporn wins RS One in SEA Games

Chonburi-based Siriporn Kaewduang Ngam completed her domination in the SEA Games women’s RS One from start to finish as he beat dashed Malaysian hope Geh Cheow Lin at the National Sailing Centre in Langkawi on Monday.

The 23-year-old former champion in 2011 received just 19 penalty points to land on the top of the standing while Lin had to be content with the silver with 26 penalty points, with  Lim Si Ning Nicole of Singapore coming at third with 37.

“I knew it would be between the Malaysian sailor and me in the Games. She was trying hard to beat me but I knew my only chance to win was to keep pressuring her. We have been competing together for a long time, “ said Siriporn who trains at the Jomtien beach in Pattaya.

“I was quite confident even before the competition but I never underestimated Lin. Actually she was more familiar with the winds and condition. But I knew I had to get a good start to win,” added Siriporn who also won the Asian Games bronze medal in Incheon in 2014.

The sailor next eyes on the 2018 Asian Games in Indonesia which will be her second appearance in the continental sporting event.

“I will go back to training at Jomtien right after the SEA Games to prepare for the Asian Games. My goal is to win a gold,” she added.
