Ratchanok dedicates Denmark Open win to late king

Ratchanok Intanon dedicated her victory to HM the late King Bhumibol after she rallied from 16-19 behind to upset defending champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan 14-21 21-15 21-19  in the Danisa Denmark Open on Sunday.

After the final point was over, Ratchanok sat on court and performed a Thai wai in tears in a gesture to honour the king who passed away 12 months ago.

“I would like to dedicate this win to the king who passed away,” Ratchanok said in an on court interview.

“I have to do my best , to  show my best in order to win. This is a tough time for Thailand,” said the emotional Ratchanok.

Ratchanok also put the 18-drought of Super Series tile to an end. This is her sixth Super Series title and her third trophies this year after the Thailand Open and New Zealand Open.

She is also the second Thai to win in Denmark after Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk won the men’s singles last year.
