Pol to face Matosevic for Hua Hin maindraw

Local hope Pol Wattanakul successfully staged a revenge over South Korean Yunseong Chung after he beat the old foe for the first time 7-5 6-4 to move a step closer to maindraw of the US$150,000 EA Hua Hin Open Challenger at True Arena on Sunday.

The former Davis Cup national player served 13 aces to return the favour for the first time against the 525th ranked Chung who beat him twice last year at this same arena.

“When I lost to him he was ranked around 800. This time he has been improving so I expected a tough match from him especially he just upset Lu Yen Hsun recently,” said the 22-year-old.

“But I’m playing so well just like I was in the fisrt round. I did exactly what I had to do. I just wished I hadn’t missed some easy returns and gave him several double faults,” said Pol who decided to train in the US in hope to improve his game. It proves his decision is right.

“I’ve got the chance to hit with many tough players and they have powerful ball speed. So I get used to with powerful groundstrokes which really helps this week,” said the Thai who has a tough assignment against former top 40 player Marinko Matosevic of Australia in the final qualifying round on Monday.

“I used to sit on with his camp as guest during the ATP Thailand Open years ago. He is a tough player. But with the level I’m playing now, I can compete with everyone. I will try to enjoy the game like I’ve done over the past couple of rounds.”
