Thanathip and Nond win  River Kwai Half Marathon

Thanathip Dichim and Thai-Mon Nond reigned supreme on the men’s and women’s categories of the FB Battery River Kwai Half Marathon Thailand Championship  in Kanchanaburi on Sunday.

Thanathip, 24 years old from Khon Kaen, timed one hour and 11.58 minutes to win the 21.1km men’s division while 19-year-old Nhon crossed the finish line in one hour and 33.45 minutes to win the women’s event.

“This is a good consolation for me after I missed the sign-in deadline last year. So I was willing to make it in time this and here I am winning the title 12 months later. I’m quite happy with my results,” said Thanathip, one of the nine members of the Siam Runner’s Club competing in the tournament.

Nond, 19, who is half Mon (an ethnic group in Myanmar)  represented Thong Pha Phum WIttaya School was in her second appearance in the event.

“I came here with 10 other students from my school. I can’t believe I finished first,” the teenager said.

More than 6,000 runners took part in the event which took place on the province routes highlighted by the Kwai River bridge which is the most important historical symbol in Kanchanaburi.
