Leo Cup offers Bt1m prize money to winners

THE 2017 Thai League runner-ups, SCG Muangthong United, along with five clubs from League 1 and two from League 2 will take part in the second edition of the Leo Pre-Season Cup which offers a prize money of Bt1 million to the winners.


Muangthong, the six-time League 1 champions, will be joined by Chiangrai United, Bangkok Glass, Pattaya United, Port, and Nakhon Ratchasima Mazda, as well as Chiang Mai from League 2 and Khon Kaen who were just promoted after winning League 3 in 2017. The tournament will be held from January 9-14 in Chiang Mai, Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen and features total prize money of Bt2 million.
“We have increased the number of teams from six in 2016 to eight this year to make the competition more exciting for the fans. All these selected teams are sponsored by our company and we believe the event will serve as a good preparation for all teams for the upcoming Thai league season,” said Worawut Bhirombhakdi, deputy managing director of Boon Rawd Trading.

The knock-out event will see Nakhon Ratchasima host Pattaya at 6pm, while Chiang Rai host Port at 8pm, both on January 9. On January 10, Khon Kaen will take on Bangkok Glass at 6pm and Chiang Mai will play Muangthong at 8pm. The semi-final and final games are set for January 12 and 14 respectively, the venues for which will be announced later.
The runners-up will receive Bt500,000 while the third and fourth placed teams will take home Bt300,000 and Bt200,000 respectively. Fans can watch live coverage of all matches on True 4 U or Truevisions 24. For more information, visit
