Russia reclaims nine medals, two gold, after CAS ruling

Paris - Russia roared back to the top of the medals table of the 2014 Sochi Olympics after sport's top court CAS lifted a life ban for doping on 28 Russians on Thursday. The Russian team initially won 33 medals in Sochi, including 13 golds, to put it ahead of Norway and Canada.

But after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) imposed sanctions, Russia slipped down to fourth in the medals table.

However, the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the appeals of 28 of the 43 Russians accused of doping at Sochi, lifting their life bans and reinstating their results form Sochi.

This means Russia can reclaim two golds, six silvers and a bronze, putting it back, in theory, on top of the 2014 Olympic medals table.
