Three straight quarter-finals in Super 500 for Ratchanok

Three straight quarter-finals in Super 500 for Ratchanok

Two-time former champion Ratchanok Intanon was briefly tested by India’s Aakarshi Kashyap before she prevailed in straight games for three successive quarter-finals in the Super 500 level during the second round of the India Open on Thursday.

The world No 4, winner in the tournament in 2016 and 2013, spent only 28 minutes to topple the rival 21-11 21-12 for a quarter-final spot after winning in Malaysia and reaching the semi-finals in Indonesia over the past two weeks.

She will face seventh-seeded Yip Pui Yin of Hong Kong this evening. The Thai holds a 12-3 win-loss record over the opponent.

Also in the quarter-finals are two pairs of Thai women’s doubles. Second seeded Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai face Jakkampudi and Poorvisha S Ram of India today while eighth-seeded Kittipak Dubthuk and Natcha Saengchote play top seeded Kamilla Rytter Juhl and Christinna Pedersen of Denmark.
