World No 1 Simona Halep of Romania leads the elite field of entrants into the Intercontinental World Tennis Thailand Championship which is due between December 23-24 at the True Arena Hua Hin.

The 26-year-old Romanian who has 15 WTA singles titles to her credit will be joined by world No 4 Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, No 7 Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia, the French Open champion and No 9 Johanna Konta of Great Britain in the annual tennis exhibition.

“This will be the first time for all four players to compete in Hua Hin. All will stay in Hua Hin for five days after the tournament to train for the Australian Open,” said Suwat Liptapanlop, advisory organizing committee chairman of the event.

Among the four star players, only 20-year-old Ostapenko is a Grand Slam champion. The Latvian took the world by storm when she came out of no where to triumph at the Roland Garros, coming from behind to beat Halep in the final.

Ostapenko has a fearless game as she is capable of whacking thundering grondstrokes from both sides which makes her one entertaining youngsters to watch.

The four players will compete in the knock- out stage at 6pm and 8pm respectively on December 23. Winners will move into the final set at 8pm on December 24 while the third place play-off is due at 6pm. All matches can be viewed live on True670 and True 4U.
