Bangkok’s drainage authority says repeated flooding during heavy rain is caused by the capital’s low-lying geography, rainfall exceeding system capacity and rubbish blocking key drainage points, as officials work around the clock to keep water moving.

Bangkok is expanding its drainage tunnels, underground water banks and real-time monitoring systems to tackle extreme rainfall and reduce flood risks.
