The United States has joined Songkran celebrations in Thailand with its Acting Secretary of State John J Sullivan offering his best wishes in a statement and the US Embassy in Bangkok producing a video featuring its embassy staff talking about what Songkran means to them.

Best wishes are pouring in from Facebook for the swift recovery of Pol Senior Sergeant Major Worawichai Boonraksa, one of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) officers injured in a deadly bomb ambush in Yala on Thursday.
