New US ambassador pledges tighter Thailand ties, discusses Apec preparations

New United States ambassador Robert F Godec committed to boosting the US-Thailand alliance during a courtesy call to Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai in Bangkok on Friday.

Don congratulated Godec on his assumption of duty, while Godec underscored his commitment to enhancing Thailand-US relations.

Both sides discussed promoting cooperation in multi-faceted areas, including on climate change and under the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec).

Don and Godec also discussed preparations for the Apec Economic Leaders’ Week, which Bangkok will host from November 14 to 19.

The US will be represented at the Apec Summit on November 18-19 by Vice President Kamala Harris.

Both sides also exchanged views on current regional developments and the importance of cooperation under Asean framework.
