Ekkarat Sriarayanpong, head of the SRT governor's office, said the SRT Ploenchit Park in the heart of Bangkok marked its first anniversary last month and it is now open to pets.
The SRT has turned its plot along the 2.5-kilometre railway between Sukhumvit and Rama 4 road into a public park in line with SRT governor Nirut Maneephan’s wish to provide a green lung for Bangkokians to exercise and carry out other activities.
Ekkarat said the SRT has allocated a section of its Ploenchit park for pets and called it SRT Pet Friendly Park. The section is now open and pet owners can bring their pets there from 5am to 10pm every day.
He said pet owners must comply with the following conditions:
- Pets must be restrained by a strap or must be in a pet trolley.
- Owners must carry waste bags for disposing of their pets’ waste immediately.
- Owners must stay with their pets all the time.
Ekkarast said the SRT Ploenchit Park has walkways to link to Lumpini Park and Benjakitti Park.
He said Bangkok residents could use the park as a safe pedestrian shortcut as it is monitored by security cameras and has enough lighting at night.
The park is also located near the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway.
