MUJU FIREFLY FESTIVAL

Now until September 6, Muju-gun, Korea

The Muju Firefly festival attracted over 720,000 tourists from around the world in 2014. The festival is now the second most popular festival in South Korea and takes place at the habitat for the firefly and its prey, the marsh snail, which becomes an open ecology lab to further discover the wonders of nature. The festival has now garnered global praise and been listed on CNN’s travel website CNNgo.

 

PORT DICKSON INTERNATIONAL BIKE FEST 2015

LA MUIXERANGA

September 7 to 8, Algemesi, Spain

Every September, the Valencian town of Algemesi stages the Virgen de la Salud Fiesta in honour of the Virgin of Health. The highlight is September 8, when the town is filled with a stream of muixeranga, or acrobats, who form amazing human pyramids. Church masses, processions, dancing, music and plenty of local food and wine complete the programme.

 

RHINE IN FLAMES – NIGHT OF 1,000 FIRES

Mind-blowing pyrotechnical spectacles staged in the beautiful Rhine valley, “Rhine in Flames – Night of 1000 Fires” draws locals and tourists alike. “Rhine in Flames” is actually the name of five different firework displays along the river Rhine. The displays take place annually, at various locations along the river. Taking place around Oberwesel, it forms the highlight of the town’s annual wine festival. Known for its towers and wine, Oberwesel celebrates this spectacle each year with a fantastic fireworks display set to music. More than 50 brightly lit riverboats set off from St Goar and travel the seven kilometres of the River Rhine towards Oberwesel. Spectators can watch and listen from either riverbank or by taking a cruise on one of the 50 ships.

 

PARDEEVILLE WATERMELON FESTIVAL

The most important questions at the Pardeeville Watermelon Festival in Wisconsin are: How fast can you eat a watermelon and how far can you spit the pips? The US Watermelon Speed-Eating and Seed-Spitting Championships have been held annually since 1968. Over the years, new events have been added such as Largest Watermelon contest and Watermelon Carving contest.
