Paddling to win
The Dragon Boat Festival returns to Hong Kong from Friday to Sunday (June 24) to pay tribute to QU Yuan, a great poet in the Zhou Dynasty and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
Set against the iconic skyline of Central Harbourfront, the festival will feature exciting dragon boat races, food and beer, music and local cultural elements. More than 5,000 paddlers from Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA, Canada, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Mainland China and Hong Kong will participate in the Dragon Boat races at Victoria Harbour and compete for a total of 27 championship prizes.
The special obstacle Red Bull Dragon Roar race and the much-loved Fancy Dress contest will be staged on June 4, and 14 food trucks will be on hand to feed the hungry with local delicacies. Music shows and beer booths also form part of the entertainment.
