Pay Homage at the Phra Pathommachedi Festival 2017
Learn more about Thai Buddhist traditions at the annual fair in Nakhon Pathom province.
The Pay Homage to Phra Pathommachedi Festival 2017 is taking place from today until 8 November at Wat Phra Pathom Chedi Rachavaramahaviharn, in Nakhon Pathom province.
The nine-day/nine-night festival is an annual tradition for Buddhists to pay homage to the Buddha’s relics enshrined in the Phra Pathommachedi, and pay respect to the Buddha images of the Phra Pathommachedi complex including Phra Ruang Rojanarit in the Northern Vihara or the main hall of the temple.
Throughout nine days, visitors will have the chance to learn more about Thai Buddhist tradition and the local way of life of Nakhon Pathom people as well as enjoy many other activities including the Red Cross Fair and a farmers’ market.
Nakhon Pathom is a province located some 58 kilometres from Bangkok. It is thought to have been one of the oldest cities and the centre of civilisation in the Dvaravati Kingdom. Wat Phra Pathom Chedi Rachavaramahaviharn is the royal temple which houses Thailand’s biggest and highest stupa, which is also the symbol of the province.
While in Nakhon Pathom, visitors may want to visit other attractions including Wat Rai Khing temple, agro-tourism at Klong Mahasawat canal, the Thai Human Imagery Museum, Phutthamonthon Buddhist Park, and Sampran Riverside eco-cultural destination.
