Actually, I have it on very good authority that the practice stems from a male-centred affliction known as “SPS”, where “S” stands for “small” and “syndrome”. Presumably, it’s a bit like “OCD” (obsessive compulsive disorder) though far more serious.
Partially suffering from OCD but not from SPS probably explains why I’ve failed to become a billionaire with something to prove!
